01 Introduction
Welcome to Tanly ("we," "our," or "us"). Tanly is a tanning session tracker app for iOS that helps you monitor UV exposure, log tanning sessions, track your Skin Health Score, and build safer tanning habits.
We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Tanly iOS application and our website at tanly.co (collectively, the "Service").
We never sell your personal data to advertisers or third parties. Your tanning history, health scores, and session data remain private to you.
02 Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create a Tanly account (powered by Supabase Authentication), we collect:
- Email address
- Display name or username
- Password (stored as a secure hash — we never see your plain-text password)
- Account creation date and last login timestamp
Session & Tanning Data
When you log tanning sessions, we collect:
- Session type (outdoor tanning or tanning bed)
- Session date, start time, and duration
- Body parts selected for each session
- Tanning bed intensity level (if applicable)
- SPF product and protection level used
- Notes you add to sessions
Location & Weather Data
With your explicit permission, we collect:
- Your approximate location (city/region level) to fetch live UV index and weather conditions
- UV index readings and temperature data at the time of your sessions
Location data is used solely to display real-time weather and UV conditions. We do not store your precise GPS coordinates or track your movements.
Health & Wellness Data
- Daily water intake logs and hydration goals
- Skin Health Score (calculated from your session and SPF habits)
- Session streaks and achievement progress
Face Scan & Skin Tone Detection
Tanly includes an optional feature that allows users to scan their face using the device camera to help determine their approximate skin tone for profile settings.
- The feature briefly analyzes the color values of the user's face to estimate skin tone.
- The captured image is processed locally on the user's device.
- The image itself is not stored, uploaded, or transmitted to Tanly servers.
- Only the resulting skin tone value (a color reference used for the user's Skin Type setting) is saved to the user's profile.
This information is used solely to personalize the user's Skin Type setting within the app and improve tanning session recommendations.
Tanly does not store facial images, does not perform biometric identification, and does not share any face-related data with third parties.

Device & Usage Data
- Device type, iOS version, and app version
- Crash reports and error logs

03 How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Tanly Service
- Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
- Store and display your tanning session history and statistics
- Calculate your Skin Health Score and progress metrics
- Deliver live UV index and weather data for your location
- Send SPF reapply reminders and hydration notifications
- Track streaks, achievements, and weekly progress
- Determine a user's approximate skin tone for profile personalization when using the optional face scan feature
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset) via Resend
- Process premium subscription purchases via RevenueCat and the App Store
- Monitor app performance and diagnose crashes
- Improve the Service based on usage patterns (only with your opt-in consent)
04 Third-Party Services
Tanly uses the following trusted third-party services to power the app. Each service has its own privacy policy and data handling practices:
Handles user account creation, login, and secure data storage. Your session data, profile, and preferences are stored in Supabase's PostgreSQL database with row-level security enforced.

Your data is stored securely using Supabase's managed PostgreSQL infrastructure, which includes:
- Row-level security (RLS) — your session data is only accessible by your account
- AES-256 encryption at rest
- TLS encryption in transit
- Secure, hashed password storage (bcrypt)
- Regular automated backups
Data is stored on servers in the United States. By using Tanly, you consent to your data being processed in the United States.
While we take all reasonable precautions, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
07 Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct your account information at any time in the Settings screen.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Portability: Request an export of your session history and data.
- Opt-out of Analytics: Disable anonymous analytics sharing at any time via Settings → Privacy → Share Anonymous Analytics.

08 Health & Wellness Data
Tanly collects wellness-related data including UV exposure history, tanning session duration, hydration intake, and SPF usage to calculate your Skin Health Score. This data:
- Is stored privately and associated only with your account
- Is never shared with health insurers, advertisers, or third parties
- Is used exclusively to calculate in-app metrics and scores for your personal use
- Is not integrated with Apple Health unless explicitly requested in a future update
Tanly is a lifestyle tracking tool, not a medical device. The Skin Health Score and tanning tips are for informational purposes only and do not constitute medical advice. Always consult a dermatologist for professional skin health guidance.
09 Children's Privacy
Tanly is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us immediately at privacy@tanly.co and we will delete the account and associated data promptly.
10 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via in-app notification or email (sent via Resend).
Continued use of Tanly after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
